The JConcepts team, while at a recent high-profile event at LCRC Raceway, tested a new body shell for the 1:8th buggy class. In the steady hands of Ryan Maifield, he performed some driving with his Tekno buggy with the P2 body shell. Originally for the 1:10th vehicles, the team from Groveland, Florida built up a prototype using styling cues from the World Championship winning body used by Spencer Rivkin in 2019. Reaching back to 2010, JC has experimented with a tall stabilizing fin on the rear of the body.
For a fresh season of competition, JConcepts has incorporated a small mini fin placed behind the rear of the cab that does not interfere with the engine head. In the rear, the ramping feature that is so popular on the P2, creeps up behind the cab and engine head to create extra force and stability. The front of the body, the powerful and wide cab of the Punisher series pushes the P2 through the corners with speed. The top of the cab is reinforced, and the fin stabilizer whisks through the turns and has a driving sensation like the S15. The sidepod has built-in clearance with heavy chamfering at 2 angles and multi-angle S15 winglets.
The windshield has a large format, completely recessed, and includes railing up the front and over the cab. In front, a deflection shield stands strong supporting the front of the body and allowing multiple angles for aerodynamic catch. The huge windows are a throwback to 1990’s racing, where the big window drivers ruled the roost while looking the lowest on the track and the most dominant in the pits. The entire section behind the cab is constructed around the engine heatsink, the open area with ramping feature built into the design helps alleviate hot air build-up.
The photo car is the JConcepts show car featuring the Juan Carlos Canas painted scheme. Painters like VP Design art painting keep Juan always looking good for his racing. In a rush, great resources like Kustom RC Graphics supplied JConcepts with bodies to show off and race for Ryan Maifield, Spencer Rivkin, and Juan Carlos Canas. If it wasn’t for the artist’s painting in the industry, we simply would not look as good.
The body arrives as clear polycarbonate with protective film and is available in standard and lightweight formed thickness. The JConcepts team builds, tests, and travels the world to support the brand and gather valuable driver feedback in search of the best appearing and performance items on the market. The product is designed and formed in the U.S.A. and always backed by JConcepts customer service, supported, and developed by professionals with style. Look for reputable dealers and distributors and demand authentic products – choose JConcepts.
Notes from the team – Ryan Maifield was asked about the P2 body - “I wanted to try something new and different, I’ve been utilizing the Silencer or S15 style body since 2012. We’ve relied on this body shell for so long, I feel like I’ve run it my entire career. I know the S15 is currently the best, but it’s time to start working on the next generation and the P2 is it.”
