Biography

One of the rising talents in the R/C industry is Phoenix, Arizona’s Spencer Rivkin. Spencer began in R/C Racing after a brief introduction to the hobby from a friendly neighbor. After some initial struggles Spencer remained determined. With some help from local racers building and adjusting the iconic B4 buggy, Spencer took on the local challenge of competing night in and out with some of Arizona’s best racers in the 2wd modified class.

After a great performance at the 2013 Cactus Classic, Spencer elevated into a premier upcoming racer who quickly gained the recognition of Team Associated and JConcepts. In the summer of 2013, Spencer made a trip to Chico, CA for the JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals where he finished 1st in the 17.5 buggy class. Later in the summer, at the 2013 ROAR Off-Road Nationals, he took home his first 2 ROAR National Championships winning both the 17.5 buggy and Short Course classes while racing for Team Associated and JConcepts.    At the end of 2013, Spencer made the trip to the JConcepts Indoor National Finals in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was able to impress by taking 2nd place overall in the 2wd modified class behind new mentor and JConcepts teammate Ryan Maifield and picked up the series championship in the 17.5 2wd class. During the busy summer event schedule, Spencer made many new friends including teammate Daimon Borkowicz. The tandem were nicknamed, “The Muppets” after their animated demeanor.

2014 kicked off with a bang, Spencer earned his largest victory to date where he took TQ and then the overall championship at the Reedy Race of Champions in the 4wd open class.  Moving on to the largest outdoor race of the year, Spencer earned an A-main position in the 2wd modified class at the 27th Annual Cactus Classic. Rivkin won the crowd over and made many believers after an impressive Round 2 qualifier where he finished a surprising 2nd overall behind mentor Ryan Maifield. In the summer of 2014, Spencer took another 2nd place finish in the 2wd modified class at the 2014 JConcepts Summer Indoor Nationals in Chico, CA, and attended the popular Hot Rod Shootout placing in both 2wd and 4wd modified A-mains.

In just a few short years, the youngster has already elevated to elite status. With additional support of Team Associated, JConcepts and a handful of respected peers, Spencer plans to attack the rest of 2014 with the same aggression and passion as he has during his brief racing career. Spencer, also known to friends as "Spence" or “Muppet” is popular with fans, fellow racers and his closest rivals due to his “chatty / silly” demeanor and sense of humor. The comedy and silliness ends once he hits the drivers stand where Spencer is very serious about representing JConcepts and Team Associated to the best of his ability.
